I’m Jillian. Owner, designer and sole-press operator here at Studio Soprano. My love of paper began at an early age, but it wasn't until I came across letterpress accounts on Instagram that my obsession with printing began. In a few short months I went from having no idea vintage printing presses still existed, to having one in my living room and printing my first (absolutely stunning!!) wedding suite. Needless to say, I got hooked.
Having a background in luxury interior design, I live for the details. My experience in working with various brands has taught me that consistency throughout an experience creates a harmony that resonates deeply with those present. It adds that “wow” factor, and that's what I'm here to help you create.
All prints produced by Studio Soprano are done on a vintage platen letterpress named Gordy. While Gordy and I started our journey together in 2019, he's been printing since 1887! Made in Chicago, this American beauty runs as good today as I imagine he did at his first print shop! As technology evolved, a lot of these floor-model "jobbers", as they're affectionately known, were tossed out to the curb for scrap. Today, artisans like myself are saving these presses and continuing to give them purpose.
Because of the way Gordy (and letterpress in general) works, each color needed for a design is printed one at a time. This is why the amount of colors changes the price to print it!
